Mission

Mission

The mission of the South Central Foundation for Fitness, Dance, and Arts is to promote self-healing and personal enrichment through comprehensive community-based centers offering instruction and education in fitness, dance, and arts to low-income communities in Los Angeles affected by health disparities.

We partner with other organizations who already serve low-income communities. We bring a comprehensive exercise and nutrition program to the site so patients have better access to these services. Many of these patients who have chronic diseases need to exercise to improve their health, but they live in unsafe neighborhoods where it is dangerous to exercise in the streets or local parks. Community clinics have become a safe haven for these patients, and we believe if we bring our fitness program to these clinic sites, it will encourage patients to continue exercising even after the program ends.

The vision of the center is to one day have its own building where its members can come and partake in a wide array of classes such as jazz, ballet, hip-hop, fitness, flamenco, boxing, martial arts, painting, singing, cooking, etc. The arts and exercise in general have a healing characteristic to the human soul and body. They help prevent and improve many conditions that are affecting our communities today: teen pregnancies, depression, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, cancer, heart disease, etc. South LA is one of the most densely populated sectors in Los Angeles County, with the highest chronic disease and crime rates. Our community is the sickest and poorest with the least amount of resources available. We hope to partner up with many local centers such as schools, churches, and community-based clinics to encourage the community to exercise and dance their way to health.
